They did the monster mash

Momma and I are fans of mashups, such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters, and Little Women and Werewolves.

We also like classics reimagined such as Grimm, Tinman, and Oz the Great and Powerful.

So we are quite intrigued with current and upcoming movies Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Jack the Giant Slayer.

After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel and Gretel have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution.  Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches...their past.

In Jack the Giant Slayer, an ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.

Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

These aren't your insipid childhood fairy tales. They're out for blood.

Steampunk Addie: Vampire Hunter

Momma and I went to see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter last night for her birthday.

President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The secret life of our nation's favorite president...as history's greatest hunter of the undead.

As she put it, it was hysterically bad.

We loved the book because it made the plot plausible.

The movie? Not so much.

But don't worry, Mr. President. I've got your back.

The classics, going-to-be

Momma's home sick with Weak Lungs so I went to the library to get some books to read to her.

The Classics.

Miss Sparrow went to the shelves and returned with an armful of books.

She handed them to Me one by one.

Little Women and Werewolves, by Louisa May Alcott. Classic.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen. Classic.

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, by Jane Austen. Classic.

Android Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy. Classic.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, by Seth Grahame-Smith. Classic, going-to-be.

She was laughing and so was I.

"You don't need to read them all today," Miss Sparrow said.

Ha! (Or should I say, "Mwahaha!"?)

Maybe after Momma goes to sleep?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I got Momma a copy of Dick and Jane and Vampires since she's just learning to read.

That should put her to sleep.

With apologies to Maud Hart Lovelace
and her delightful book,
