Accessory after the fact

I was asked today what are my "must have" accessories.

Hmm, so many choices....

Well, my Unusually Stout Parasol, of course! I never leave home without it. Even if you don't see it in my photos, it is somewhere close by.

A tiny top hat since a lady never leaves the house without her hair covered. Besides, it looks fabulous! (I also use a headband and snood to keep my hair out of my face.)

My tinted glasses (or goggles) since they give me an inscrutable look.

My chatelaine - a chain belt with a padlock. The padlock keeps it safe upon my person while reminding me that NO ONE will EVER put ME in chains again. On it I have:

  • Aether Pistol - in case my parasol fails me - which it never has.
  • Flask (for medicinal purposes)
  • Candle stubs
  • Notebook and pencil
  • Compass
  • Scissors
  • First-aid kit
  • A coil of stout cord
  • Magnifying glass
  • Telescope

Boots - they protect my lower legs while making a grand sound while I stomp around. They help deliver sharp blows to villains, too.

Bling - It might not be sparkly (the enemy can spot sparkly a mile away) but I love to wear flowers, necklaces (especially my shell necklace), and lace mitts.

Unmentionables - I blush to mention them but you never know when corset stays might come in handy for picking a lock or filing bars. The same goes for my hoop skirt or crinoline.

The Steampunk Olympics

If I was to start The Steampunk Olympics, what events do you think should be included?

Even more important, which events should I compete in?

The Ancient Games featured running events, a pentathlon (consisting of a jumping event, discus and javelin throws, a foot race and wrestling), boxing, wrestling, pankration (
a blend of boxing and wrestling), and equestrian events.

At the first Olympic Games, nine sports were contested. Since then, the number of sports contested at the Summer Olympic Games has gradually risen to 28 on the program for 2000-2008.

However, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London the number of sports will fall back to 26 following 2005 decision to remove baseball and softball from the Olympic program. (They retain their status as Olympic sports with the possibility of a return to the Olympic program in future games.)

So far I'm thinking the Steampunk Olympics should include:
  • Aether pistol
  • Ballooning
  • Orienteering

Just remember the Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius, which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger."

Seeing red

Don't ask me why, but I got to thinking about redshirts today.

As all Star Trek fans know, a "redshirt" is a character who dies shortly after being introduced. The term originates from the red shirts worn by Starfleet security officers who frequently die during episodes.

In many episodes of Star Trek, red-uniformed security officers and engineers accompanying the main characters on landing parties quickly die. In the Star Trek novel Killing Time, a crew member says, "you don't want to wear a red shirt on landing-party duty."

Well, I don't have a red shirt but I do have my red corset unmentionable. I'd like to see anyone try to kill me.

My aether pistol might be set on stun but I never miss.

The crux of the matter is about Me

I was going to write about fires since Arizona (where Momma now lives) is Burning Badly when I found out I got some publicity on Another Blog.

It's About Time others started Noticing Me!

Momma's friend Jennifer is an Incredibly Talented Crocheter who has produced Many Fine doll items (Weasley sweaters for Harry and Ginny and dirigible plum accessories for Luna) but Nothing for Me. Until now!

My Horcrux Adventure with Steampunk Addie

I've been friends with Steampunk Addie's Momma for more than 30 years. So, when the HPKCHC assignment for Muggle Studies was to make a doll or something for a doll... I knew just who to ask for help.
 I should think so!
These horcruxes sound like Evil of the Worst Kind so I shall take Great Pleasure destroying them with my new aether pistol. (I've discovered that while it only Stuns people it destroys Evil objects!)

Hmm, I wonder if He Who Must Not be Named is behind the Arizona fires? It seems like the Dastardly kind of thing He would do....
